Derby County defender Jason Shackell has told the Derby Telegraph that the Rams will be a fit team under new manager Nigel Pearson.
The Rams defender was discussing what his experiences have been like under the former Leicester City boss, and he believes the signs are positive ahead of the new season.
Derby have been in pre-season training for two weeks now, spending seven days in Portugal for a training camp, where they faced Portuguese champions Benfica in the Algarve Cup, losing 4-0.
Positive start: Nigel Pearson
Nevertheless, Shackell believes that everyone at the club is buying into what Pearson wants from his teams, and he expects to have good season, with a positive start against Brighton in two weeks time.
“The trip to Portugal was really good,” Shackell said.
“The gaffer and staff have been able to get some good work into us and have started to get across their ideas.
“It was a trip to lay the foundations for the season and in that regard it was great.

“The gaffer has clear messages about what he wants – which is what we need and want.
“Everyone is buying into what he wants and we have all been putting a shift in on the training ground.
“We are going to be a fit team and the signs at this early stage are positive.”

Pearson was appointed manager at the iPro at the end of May, following the departure of Darren Wassall after his temporary appointment, one that ended in the Playoff semi-finals against Hull City.
Shackell himself rejoined the Rams at the beginning of last season, signing from promoted side Burnley having spent a year at Turf Moor, having left Derby for the North West for around £1.1 million.
