The Whites and the Rams had their differences in 2018-19 but the Pride Park side seemingly continues to try and stoke the fire.
With it being EFL fixture release day, all the 24 Championship teams now know their schedule for 2019-20, but one club in particular appears to be looking forward to a particular head-to-head which the other team’s fans have largely forgotten about.
Derby County and Leeds United had their differences, to put it mildly, last season in the wake of the so-called Spygate saga, where it emerged that Marcelo Bielsa had dispatched a club employee to observe a Rams training session ahead of their league encounter in January.
The whole thing dragged on for a while – barely worth repeating again in all honesty – and although the incident was largely forgotten within the clubs’ ranks in the coming months, some animosity remained between the two sets of fans, their teams contesting one of the two Championship playoff semi-final ties in May.
However, on Thursday morning, the Rams Twitter account sought to stoke the fire between the two sides – who let’s not forget are a good 75 miles apart in different regions of the country and aren’t rivals as such – with a tweet singling out the two fixtures between them, on 21 September and 25 April, with some popcorn emojis thrown in for good measure.
Needless to say, a lot of the Whites faithful responded and whatever animosity may have been lingering around has now effectively given way to little more than contempt:
