The Grimsby Town goal machine is reportedly on Derby County’s radar after an excellent campaign in League Two.

Derby County could join the race for prolific Grimsby Town striker Omar Bogle, The Sun reports, as fellow striker Nick Blackman looks set to depart.

The Mariners’ goal machine has been on fire in League Two this season, scoring 19 times in 25 appearances to guide the newly promoted side into the top half of the table and inevitably attracting attention from higher up the footballing pyramid.

The Daily Star claimed last month that Leeds United were mulling over a move for a player who, just six years ago, played in Celtic’s youth academy while a number of other Championship clubs have also apparently expressed an interest.

And The Sun report that Bogle has also worked his way onto the radar of Steve McClaren’s Derby while forgotten flop Blackman gears up to depart after a tallying one solitary league goal in 21 appearences for The Rams.

With Derby averaging just a goal a game in the league this season, interest in Bogle is understandable although cynics will argue that a prolific scoring streak in the fourth tier is no guarantee of success at the level just below the Premier League.

Nonetheless, Bogle would surely represent a more useful addition to the squad than Blackman.
