Frank Lampard is reportedly returning to Premier League giants Chelsea but who will replace him at Championship outfit Derby County?

Frank Lampard, Manager of Derby County looks on prior to the FA Cup Third Round match between Derby County and Southampton at Pride Park on January 5, 2019 in Derby, United Kingdom.

Derby County owner Mel Morris claims that up to 12 managers have applied to replace the Chelsea-bound Frank Lampard at Pride Park, speaking to Jim White on talkSPORT (26 June, 11am).

The Rams will soon be on the lookout for a sixth permanent manager in the space of just five years after May’s heartbreaking defeat to Aston Villa in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.

40-year-old Lampard, who was one win away from a perfect end to a promising first season in coaching, is now expected to walk away with Chelsea seemingly ready to offer their all-time record goalscorer a dream return to Stamford Bridge.

Derby announced on Tuesday, via the BBC, that Lampard had been given permission to speak to Chelsea as the Europa League winners look to fill the void left by Maurizio Sarri’s move to Juventus.

Lampard is still the Derby boss as things stand but there is clearly no shortage of ambitious managers keeping tabs on the situation.

“12 or so,” Morris said when asked how many applications he had received so far. Pressed further, he indicated that some established, proven coaches have shown an interest too.

“Let’s just say some good names (have applied),” he added.

According to The Mail, Derby are looking to bring in another young, British manager with Darren Moore, Derek McInnes, John Eustace and Garry Monk, who was sacked in controversial fashion by Birmingham City last week, all lined up for a potential interview.
