Derby County left-back Max Lowe has shared what surprised him about Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa in the wake of the so-called Spygate incident.

The Whites manager caused a stir in January when it emerged that the Elland Road outfit had sent an employee to watch their opponents’ training session ahead of their Championship clash.

United’s actions divided the football world, with some backing the club and even failing to see what the fuss was about, while others suggested outlandish punishments such as points deductions, replays and reversed scorelines – the whole thing seemingly became very drawn out very quick.

The following Wednesday, Bielsa scheduled an impromptu press conference in which he showed the depth of scouting he does at the club, in a passionate defence of his methods – the Yorkshire Evening Post produced a full transcript as Bielsa provided his insight.

Lowe, who started for Frank Lampard’s side in the 2-0 loss to Leeds (BBC Sport), is now on loan at Aberdeen and, in an interview with The Press & Journal, he shared what he and his teammates felt upon witnessing Bielsa’s presser.

“We had Southampton in the cup that night and he came on Sky Sports and we were all intrigued to see what he was going to say,” he said to the outlet ahead of Saturday’s Scottish Premiership trip to Hibernian.

“He had games from the start of the season and he had our line-up then compared to now and all the players we had brought in. He is very in-depth with his knowledge and I was surprised he showed everyone that. Football is a mad world.”
