The Rams ace scored a goal against Wigan which Frank Lampard compared to that of Gareth Bale in the 2018 Champions League final.

Derby County gave their hopes of Championship promotion a much-needed shot in the arm with Tuesday night’s 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic at Pride Park which contained a goal for the ages.
The Latics opened the scoring in the 25th minute through Gavin Massey, but the Rams equalised just after the hour with a strike which can rightly be described as outrageous, courtesy of Mason Bennett.
Scott Malone’s cross from the left was behind the forward, but he managed to improvise, directing a volley, with his back to goal, with the outside of his left foot up and over the opposition goalkeeper.
Bennett’s effort helped Derby go up a gear and the provider turned goalscorer in the 78th minute, turning home a Jayden Bogle shot that looked to be going wide, and the result saw the East Midlanders go level on points with Bristol City, who have a game in hand.
Speaking about Bennett’s goal, Derby boss Frank Lampard compared it to that of Real Madrid ace Gareth Bale, who scored an acrobatic overhead kick against Liverpool in the 2018 Champions League final.

“Mason’s strike was incredible and I was saying the last time I felt like that at a game was the Champions League final when Gareth Bale scored the overhead kick,” Lampard is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying.
“I think that goal was similar in terms of the adjustment at the last second and to score from an impossible angle is a special goal for Mason and he should savour it. Some cynical people will say he didn’t mean it but I think he certainly did, the intention was there and his adjustment in the millisecond made that goal possible.”
Even some Nottingham Forest fans on Twitter couldn’t help but be impressed with Bennett’s goal despite the rivalry between the two teams:
