The Rams player put in a performance that split opinion amongst Pride Park faithful and football sites alike.

Matthew Clarke (16) of Derby County during the Carabao Cup 2nd round match between Nottingham Forest and Derby County at the City Ground, Nottingham on Tuesday 27th August 2019.

A number of Derby County fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Matt Clarke’s performance for the Rams in Friday night’s 1-1 Championship draw with Cardiff City at Pride Park.

The 22-year-old defender, on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion, was reinstated to the starting XI by Derby boss Phillip Cocu after two league games as an unused substitute.

Clarke’s display against the Bluebirds split opinion amongst Derby fans, with a particularly nervy first half by him, though as the game went on he seemed to settle into it more.

The Derby Telegraph gave him a 5 out of 10 for his efforts on the night, while in stark contrast, stats website Whoscored rated him 7.6 – the man of the match.

Here is some of the social media reaction to Clarke’s performance:

Clarke linked up with Derby shortly after having joined the Seagulls in June, their first signing since head coach Graham Potter took charge, having featured 175 times over four seasons at Portsmouth.

Last season, he played in all but one EFL Trophy fixture for Portsmouth, totalling 60 games, and as well as being Man of the Match in the final of that competition, he started every League One game as well as both play off semi-final clashes against Sunderland (official Derby website).
