Derby County have brought Clarke to Pride Park this summer from Brighton and he impressed on his Rams debut.

A number of Derby County fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Matt Clarke’s performance in the Rams’ 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town in their Championship opener at the John Smith’s Stadium on Monday night.
The 22-year-old defender linked up with the Rams earlier this month on a loan deal from Brighton & Hove Albion, not long after having joined the Premier League side permanently from fellow south coast outfit Portsmouth.
Clarke’s performances at the back for Pompey established him as a firm fan favourite and, in his first game for Derby, he put in a strong, assured performance and his decision making was spot on, very much picking up where he left off at Fratton Park.
Although Tom Lawrence stole the show in Yorkshire thanks to his brace for Phillip Cocu’s side en route to victory, Clarke’s contributions did not go unnoticed by the Rams faithful, as reaction on social media shows:
Clarke joined the Seagulls in June, their first signing since head coach Graham Potter took charge, having featured 175 times over four seasons at Portsmouth.
Last season, he played in all but one EFL Trophy fixture for Portsmouth, totalling 60 games, and as well as being Man of the Match in the final of that competition, he started every League One game as well as both play off semi-final clashes against Sunderland (official Derby website).
