A number of Derby County fans have taken to Twitter to give their thoughts on George Thorne leaving Pride Park for a loan switch to Oxford United until January (official Rams website).

Expectations were high for the 26-year-old when he joined from West Bromwich Albion in the summer of 2014 after a fruitful loan stint at Pride Park in the second half of the previous season.

However, Thorne suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury during a friendly match against Zenit Saint Petersburg just a few days after putting pen to paper with the Rams, and was ruled out of action for nine months.

He has been restricted to 47 starts for Derby in five years due to injury issues and his last appearance in the Rams’ first team was in the 4-1 home defeat by Sunderland in March 2018, also going on loan at Luton Town in the second half of last season, but making only three appearances as a substitute (Derby Telegraph).

With Thorne’s Derby contract up at the end of the season (Transfermarkt), time is running out for him to prove he still has a future at Pride Park, a sad state of affairs given how injuries have impacted upon his time at the club.

Here is what some Rams fans said on social media about Thorne’s loan switch to the League One side:
