Derby County have announced that midfielder Joe Ledley has left the Championship club after his contract was cancelled by mutual agreement on transfer deadline day.
The 32-year-old’s deal at Pride Park was up at the end of the season but following the decision, which came about due to little recent game time, he is now free to find another employer.
Ledley, who helped Wales make the semi-finals of Euro 2016, played just four times after Frank Lampard took over as Derby manager in the summer.
His last appearance for the East Midlanders came in August, and he has failed to make the bench since September.
The veteran joined the Rams early last season as a free agent and has now departed after making 30 appearances for them in all competitions.
Ledley penned an open letter explaining the reasons why he left, which he posted on his Twitter account:
Initially, some Derby fans could not believe that Ledley had left and pointed the finger at the club following their announcement:
However, after Ledley posted his message, the initial disbelief faded and turned to sadness as many fans wished him the best for the future:
