The Rams ace, 24, has been included in the USMNT’s initial 40-man squad for the tournament.

Derby County have announced that midfielder Duane Holmes has received a call-up to the provisional United States team to compete in this summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The 24-year-old, who joined the Rams from Scunthorpe United last summer, featured plentifully in the second half of the Championship season, making 27 appearances in the league and playoffs according to Transfermarkt.
Holmes, whose USMNT call-up is the first of his career, has scored two goals and claimed four assists for Derby in all competitions, while his overall appearance tally this term stands at 33 (Transfermarkt).
The Columbus-born ace will join up with the USA squad as they prepare for the Gold Cup, which starts on 15 June, where they will take on Panama, Trinidad & Tobago and Guyana in the group stages.
Interestingly, Holmes would find himself up against Derby club ambassador Michael Johnson, who is Guyana’s manager, if selected by the current Gold Cup holders.
Here is how some Rams fans – plus some players – reacted on Twitter to news of Holmes’s inclusion in the initial 40-man squad, which will be cut to 23 early next month:
