Premier League duo Aston Villa and Newcastle United were both linked with Derby County’s Championship right-back Jayden Bogle this week.

Transfer deadline day could hardly have gone much better for Derby County.
In came Jamie Paterson to add industry and class in wide areas plus goalkeeper Ben Hamer, who arrives to replace Scott Carson and drag down the average age of Phillip Cocu’s squad. But perhaps the most impressive piece of business done at Pride Park on Thursday was not a new signing at all.
According to TEAMtalk, Derby were ‘bracing themselves’ for the potential departure of academy graduate Jayden Bogle this week. Premier League clubs, such as Aston Villa and Newcastle United, were interested.

Now, Bogle is not only the most talented young player in Cocu’s roster, he is also an undisputed starter at the age of just 19. The rampaging right-back played 40 Championship games under Frank Lampard last season, despite the fact that he won’t be out of his teens until July 2020.
By then, Derby could be a Premier League team. Cocu, a proven winner who lifted three Ereidivisie titles at PSV, has already turned Derby into a more flexible and tactically astute unit and they were great value for their win away at Huddersfield Town on the opening day.
And keeping players like Bogle will go a long way to boosting their promotion ambitions.
