Derby striker congratulates Aston Villa.

Derby County fell narrowly short in the Championship play-off final.
Frank Lampard’s side were beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa, who clinched promotion to the Premier League.
Rams forward Martyn Waghorn said he was gutted to have lost, while insisting he was proud of the team’s season.
Waghorn posted on Instagram: “Very hard to put into words the disappointment of losing the game today. But I am incredibly proud to have been apart of this team this season. I have loved every single minute of it and thats something special.
“Thank you to my amazing wife @leoniwaghorn for the incredible support as always. Ruben, my best mate and all my family. I wouldn’t be here without you all. Let’s get ready to go again next season ’s @dcfcofficial ⚽️. Congratulations too @avfcofficial good luck next season.”

Derby now need to hold onto the nucleus of their squad, while also recruiting smartly this summer.
This season’s success was helped by excellent loan signings. The problem is now that Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori and Harry Wilson will all now return to their clubs.
Waghorn signed for a fee which could total £7.5 million after add ons, and he has been a success. Derby will need him to step up again next season.
