Reaction to Leeds taking on Derby County.

Leeds United were denied their first win under Paul Heckingbottom after conceding a late goal against Derby County.

The Whites scored a goal in each half and were inspired by Samu Saiz, who was playing his first game after a six game ban before Kasey Palmer scored a late equaliser.

Leeds had appeared to be heading to their first win of 2018 after a woeful run of form, and the wait goes on.

Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan lauded the result, telling BBC Radio Leeds: “Soft goals to give away, they keep defending like that. They have got no one else to blame from themselves.

“They will be gutted. This was an absolutely fantastic opportunity to get a win.”

Pierre-Michel Lasogga put Leeds United ahead in the first half, scoring a header from Stuart Dallas’ cross.

Derby equalised on the stroke of half-time through Andreas Weimann after a mix up between Lauren De Bock and Liam Cooper in the Leeds defence.

Leeds then went 2-1 up through Ezgjan Alioski, who headed in a rebound after his shot was blocked by Scott Carson.

The goal was set up by returning star Samu Saiz, who had begun the game on the bench.
