Derby County goalkeeper Scott Carson says he and his teammates will improve under new boss Steve McClaren as they look to move back towards a possession-based style, the club’s official site report.
The Rams started the campaign with Nigel Pearson at the helm, yet a disastrous run of just one win and three goals scored in their opening nine matches prompted a swift exit for the former Leicester City boss.
Steve McClaren has been named as his successor, taking over the Rams only some 15 months after being sacked by the club following a failure to reach the top play-offs in the 2014-15 campaign.
Carson believes there has already been a big difference since McClaren has come in, hinting that the former England manager is looking to play football on the floor which is in contrast to his predecessor.
“It’s no big secret that since the gaffer has come in he wants to play football. He wants the ball played on the floor and I think we have seen that in the three games that we have played so far,” Carson told dcfc.co.uk.
“We have had a full week this time and we have been able to nail down a few things. We are all only going to improve moving forward. I feel a lot more involved in the game.
“For myself, personally, it is something that I have not been used to, but it is something that I am enjoying.”
Derby host play-off contenders Sheffield Wednesday this weekend, and Carlos Carvalhal’s men will also look to get the ball down and play it which should make for an entertaining encounter.
The Rams have picked up four points from McClaren’s three games in charge, yet with only one goal scored during his tenure it’s obvious where the side’s current problems lie.
Derby are the lowest scorers in the Championship with just seven goals from 14 matches thus far.
