Derby County fans urge club to move for Didier Drogba and complete Chelsea reunion

After the Rams posted a Twitter message featuring Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and Didier Drogba at Chelsea, some fans hoped they could make it a hat-trick.

It has been an exciting week at Derby County so far after one of England’s finest players of recent times officially signed for the club.

Former Chelsea, Arsenal and England left-back Ashley Cole has put pen to paper on a contract until the end of the season, a move which was taken very well by the Rams fanbase, judging by some of the Twitter comments underneath the unveiling tweet.

The 38-year-old was a teammate of Derby boss Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge and, while there, he won the 2009-10 Premier League title, four FA Cups, one Football League Cup, one Champions League and one Europa League.

Cole’s next task will be to help the club up the Championship table and, after 10 years of hurt laden with near-misses, reclaim promotion to the top flight, and with the club currently sixth in the standings, the springboard is there.

Some Derby fans are now jokingly egging the club on to make it a Chelsea reunion by bringing in some more players from the days when Lampard and Cole were at their peaks for the west Londoners.
