Leeds United are reportedly stalling over their move for Derby’s Matej Vydra.

Matej Vydra of Derby County bursts through the Barnsley defence during the Sky Bet Championship match between Derby County and Barnsley at iPro Stadium on May 6, 2018 in Derby, England.

Derby County’s aim to cash in on 2017/18 Championship top scorer Matej Vydra is not proving so easy.

Leeds United have been frontrunners for the past fortnight but the deal has reportedly hit a snag over Vydra’s wage demands.

The Yorkshire Evening Post report Leeds have cooled their interest as they cannot afford the figures the Czech striker is said to be hoping to earn.

This is quite evidently a blow for Leeds, and it is not great for Derby either.

The Rams have not taken the decision to try to sell the forward lightly, doing so out of necessity, as it is the most practical way to comply with financial fair play regulations and bring their own players in.

Matej Vydra of Derby scores the first goal during the Sky Bet Championship match between Derby County and Nottingham Forest at iPro Stadium on October 15, 2017 in Derby, England.

Derby’s transfer business is being held up by their inabilty to shift Vydra off their books, and it could prove problematic for new manager Frank Lampard and his coaching staff.

At this point several Derby fans have come around to the idea that selling Vydra is a necessity, and view this latest development as a blow.
