Derby County have enjoyed superiority over Nottingham Forest this season, sitting in sixth place in comparison to 18th.

So it was a bit of a coup for Forest to clinch the loan signing of Ross McCormack from Aston Villa, who had been tipped previously to join rivals Derby.

The Rams were priced as second favourites behind Fulham with bookies SkyBet to land the forward just two weeks ago, only for Forest to come from nowhere to win the race for his signature.

HITC Sport’s Graeme Bailey also reported earlier this month that Derby were one of the teams interested in doing a deal for McCormack.

McCormack’s career came off the rails at Villa, but he has a proven track record of scoring goals in the Championship, doing so at a prolific rate for both Leeds United and Fulham.

He has been a reported long term target for Derby, with The Mail reporting last year he was a top target for the Rams.

Derby are in the play-off mix and the Scot could have been a major asset for them, and Forest have an excellent and low risk deal, with McCormack signing on a loan with no commitment to moving permanently if it does not pan out.
