Derby County have already had a bid turned down for Nottingham Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury.

Steve McClaren has suggested that Derby County could make a second offer for Nottingham Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury, as per his comments on BBC Sport.

Forest turned down Derby’s £2.5 million bid for Lansbury earlier this week, but McClaren has confirmed that the midfielder is a player that he admires.

And with Derby looking to strengthen in the January transfer window, the former England boss has hinted that Lansbury remains on his radar.

“They have turned it down and we will discuss that even further,” McClaren said. “He is a player we have always admired but I will leave it to the club and see if anything can be sorted.”

Lansbury has been a key player for Forest this season, but his future at the City Ground is currently up in the air.

The 26-year-old’s contract with the Reds expires at the end of the season, which means January may be the last chance for Forest to get a fee for the midfielder.

Lansbury has made 19 appearances for Philippe Montanier’s side so far this season, and scored six times.

Forest are understood to be keen to keep hold of the midfielder, but they realise that their bargaining position is a weak one.

Derby are expected to invest in January, as they chase a play off spot.

The Rams are currently in seventh place in the Championship table – two points away from Sheffield Wednesday, who occupy the final place in the top six as things stand.
