Derby County boss Gary Rowett has insisted he won’t rush into making signings at Derby County for the sake of doing so, and is looking to provide the correct levels of balance to his new squad, as reports the Derby Telegraph.

The 43-year-old former Derby player became the Rams’ third manager of the 2016/17 season in March when he took over from Steve McClaren, and is fully expected to bring in several players in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Since Mel Morris became chairman of the club in May 2014, Derby have invested heavily in their squad to little avail, with the Rams finishing eighth, fifth and ninth in those three seasons, and the appointment of Rowett is Derby’s latest roll of the dice to try and get promoted from the Championship.

However, while Rowett has the resources to go all out and sign players very quickly, he is refraining from doing so as he believes that a more thoughtful approach will serve him better than a scatter gun tactic, while also conceding that there will be players who will depart the club.

“I could go and sign 10 players if I want to very quickly but they might not be the 10 players to get us to where we want to go,” Rowett said, as reported by the Derby Telegraph. “Sometimes, you hope you can get a few deals over the line fairly quickly – but they have to be the right deals to add the right balance to the squad.”

“Along with bringing players in, it has to work the other way also and there are going to have to be some players that go out, just for good house-keeping.”

Derby have already sorted out their pre-season schedule ahead of the upcoming campaign, and will go toe-to-toe with German surprise package TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in their only home fixture, with the Bundesliga side level on points with third placed Borussia Dortmund.

The Rams will also face away trips to Northampton Town, Macclesfield Town, Kidderminster Harriers and four time German champions Kaiserslautern.
