Derby County manager Mel Morris has spoken about what a manager said to him regarding the 4-4-2 formation.
Derby County fans have been on a rollercoaster of emotions over the course of the last few years, with this season being no different following their turbulent start under now-departed manager Nigel Pearson.
There has been a great deal of talk in the media as to where the problem lies at the club, and in a recent Q&A session chairman Mel Morris has made some interesting comments about some advice he was given. As reported by Derby Telegraph, Morris stated that a manager who was in line for the job at the iPro Stadium spoke to him about the 4-4-2 formation.

Morris was speaking at a question and answer session when he told the story of a telephone call he received from a potential candidate for the managerial position.
Morris said: “One of the managers who applied for the job which we gave to Nigel Pearson rang me about two weeks ago.
“He said ‘look, it’s not sour grapes that I didn’t get the job but I just wanted to say you thought you were going to get caught out with 4-3-3, you thought you’d been found out.

“You’re going to get murdered with 4-4-2 with two small players in the middle of the park’.
“So, we have to get everyone to understand what the plan is, how committed we are to that plan and see how much effort is going into making that plan work.”
Regardless of the formation, the more important question at hand for Derby fans is who will take over as the new manager of the club. Speculation has been running rampant ever since Pearson was dismissed, and it seems like only a matter of time before a final decision is made.
