The Reds loanee is proving a sensation at Pride Park but the Rams manager says there is a clause in place for a January recall.
Derby boss Frank Lampard has confirmed that Liverpool loanee Harry Wilson can be recalled by his parent club in January.
The 21-year-old midfielder has been a sensation at Pride Park, bagging seven goals in just 15 Championship appearances (Transfermarkt).
Wilson, whose latest haul was a match-winning brace against Swansea, is also Derby’s current top goalscorer with eight in all competitions.
Logically, one would think that, given Wilson’s superb form and progress with the Rams, it would be best if he could see out the season.
However, Lampard has nonetheless confirmed that the Reds have a clause in the youngster’s contract which allows them to recall him if they so wish.
“There is an element where Liverpool can call him back in early January,” the 40-year-old told reporters at his pre-match press conference, as quoted by talkSPORT.
“That is a conversation between the clubs. For me, he is here to progress, and he is progressing well. I hope he stays with us because I think we can work well for each other.”
A follow-up report in Derbyshire Live on Friday, however, understood that Liverpool have no plans to trigger Wilson’s release clause in January.
It stated that the Reds are pleased with how the Welshman’s loan is and how he is being managed by Derby and by Lampard.
Though this follow-up will surely reassure many Rams fans, there will be some anxious to see January pans out in terms of the transfer market and whether anything changes at Anfield – injuries, fatigue or suspensions perhaps – that may prompt Jurgen Klopp to review the situation.
