Ahead of Saturday’s big Championship clash with Leeds United, Derby County boss Phillip Cocu has provided an injury update on highly rated right-back Jayden Bogle, as reported in the Derby Telegraph.

The 19-year-old enjoyed a sensational breakthrough season for the Rams last time out and made the right side of defence his own but has been sidelined since picking up an ankle injury in the second game of the season against Swansea City.

In his pre-match press conference ahead of the Whites game at Elland Road, Cocu confirmed that Bogle is making progress and trained for part of the session today, but Saturday’s game at Leeds is too soon for him to make a return.

“Today, for the first 30 minutes of training he joined in and then he went on to do his individual programme,” the Pride Park boss is quoted by the Derby Telegraph as saying. “It is going very well. If he continues in this way probably he will be available in the next league game.”

This means that left-back Max Lowe will likely cover again on the opposite flank for the £10million-rated ace and one-time Brighton & Hove Albion target (Daily Mail), while Scott Malone is expected to line up on the left side.

In addition, Cocu offered an update on Rams striker Mason Bennett, telling reporters that “I expect Mason to return to training maybe next week”, and on Lee Buchanan, who ” is fine, he is training. It was a mild hamstring issue. So it was good we stopped at the right time”.

Derby’s next league game after Leeds is at home against Birmingham City on Saturday 28 September.
