Hull City and Derby are battling it out for Brentford forward Scott Hogan, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Hogan joined Brentford from Rochdale in the summer of 2014, but saw his progress at the club hampered by suffering two serious cruciate knee ligament injuries in 12 months.

The forward has battled his way back to fitness and he returned to first-team action in March scoring seven goals in seven matches since returning from injury.

The 24-year-old has scored one goal in four appearances so far this season and Brentford are bracing themselves for interest in their prize asset before the close of the transfer window.

Hull are desperate to bolster their attacking options before the close of the transfer having so far failed to sign any new players this summer.

Caretaker boss Mike Phelan has guided Hull to two wins in their opening two games, but he knows he needs to add to his squad if they are to survive in the Premier League this season.

However, they could face competition for Hogan’s signature with Derby also keen on the former Everton youngster.

Derby boss Nigel Pearson is keen to add to his attacking options at the iPro Stadium and he sees Hogan as someone who could prove the difference in their bid to win promotion to the Premier League.

Hull and Derby are both understood to have made bids of £7million for Hogan and are waiting to see if Brentford will accept their offers.
