Former Arsenal forward Gervinho reportedly makes more money than Manchester United target Kevin Strootman, while Carlos Tevez earns more than his Juventus teammate Arturo Vidal.
Italian sports daily La Gazzetta dello Sport conducted an investigation into players’ salaries in Serie A and published their findings on Monday – and there were some very interesting figures.
The highest earning player in the Italian top flight is AS Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi, who is on €6.5 million a year – €1m more than Napoli forward Gonzalo Higuain, who was reportedly a transfer target for Arsenal last summer.
One player who left Arsenal last summer was Gervinho, who seems to be doing pretty well compared to Manchester United target Kevin Strootman.
Ivory Coast international forward Gervinho, who struggled at the Gunners during his time there between 2011 and 2013, reportedly earns €2.9m, while Strootman gets €2.8m.
It is not a massive difference, but it does appear strange when you consider that the Netherlands international is one of the best midfielders in the world and was strongly linked with a move to United in the summer.
Reports persist that the Red Devils will make a move for the 24-year-old in January, and they can certainly offer him a better wage package than he is at Roma at the moment.
Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal was another of United’s Serie A-based transfer targets in the summer, and he too earns less than a former Premier League player.
Former Manchester United and Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez is the highest-paid player at Juventus – he earns €4.5m a year.
Fernando Torres, who joined AC Milan on a two-year loan deal from Chelsea, gets €4m per annum, and so does the Italian club’s joint-highest paid player Philippe Mexes.
