Everton were reportedly keen on Denis Zakaria over the summer.
Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria has told the Bundesliga website that he is disappointed to have been out of the side – and is desperate to play more regularly.
Zakaria, 21, starred last season in 30 Bundesliga appearances, and subsequently featured for Switzerland at the World Cup in Russia this past summer.
The midfielder was expected to have a huge season, especially as The Mirror reported over the summer that Everton were looking to lure him to the Premier League.
However, Zakaria has started just three league games this season, and was left on the bench for the recent 3-0 victory away at Bayern Munich.
Unsurprisingly, Zakaria isn’t too pleased with his current role with Gladbach, has told the Bundesliga website that he was disappointed to miss out against Bayern, and is desperate to play more often.
“Of course I’m disappointed not to be there from the start in a top match like Bayern,” said Zakaria. “Everything else would mean that I missed my job. I will continue to work hard to be back soon. But it’s clear that I want to play more often,” he added.
Zakaria is an outstanding all-action midfielder; he’s big at 6ft 3in tall, incredibly strong and very good in the tackle, making him an ideal holding midfielder, whilst his pace and technical ability means he can play box-to-box too.
That flexibility and versatility makes Zakaria an exciting Everton target, with his best days ahead of him, and Marcel Brands should certainly keep him on the radar for 2019.
Whether it’s in January or for the summer, when the Andre Gomes loan deal ends, Zakaria should remain an Everton target thanks to his great skillset and potential – and Everton could really profit if Zakaria remains unhappy with his playing time.
