Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers and Sunderland reportedly want Hibernian’s Dylan McGeouch.

Dylan McGeouch enjoyed a successful campaign at Hibernian this past season, and there is no surprise that Steven Gerrard’s Rangers and Sunderland have been linked with the former Celtic midfielder.

According to The Scottish Sun, Scottish Premiership side Rangers and Sunderland, who will play in League One in England next season after getting relegated from the Championship, are interested in securing the services of McGeouch on a free transfer this summer.

Blackburn Rovers and Queens Park Rangers are also reported to be interested in the 25-year-old, who is out of contract at Hibs this summer.

Hibernian chief executive Leeann Dempster has said that the club would like to retain the services of McGeouch, but has admitted that they could find it hard to compete for his signature – comments which should encourage Rangers and Sunderland in their (reported) pursuit of the Scotland international.

Dempster told Sky Sports: “We’d still love Dylan to be back at Hibernian and we have tried quite hard to make that happen. There’s certainly a chance of it.

“Equally I think we need to be realistic and know that Dylan’s got many suitors – as I understand it, in Scotland and in England. He will make the decision that’s right for him at this point in his career.”

Race hotting up

McGeouch is a very good midfielder, and he would be a good signing for Rangers, Sunderland, QPR or Hibernian for the 2018-19 campaign.

While it would make a lot of sense for the former Celtic midfielder to remain at Easter Road where he is already hailed a hero, joining Rangers could be very tempting, especially with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard now in charge of the Gers.
