Tottenham Hotspur suffered a disappointing Sunday afternoon as they lost 2-1 at Watford, ending the club’s 100% start to the season.

Spurs went 1-0 down but lost 2-1 having conceded from two second half set pieces, killing the buzz generated from last Monday’s 3-0 thrashing of Manchester United.

One player who didn’t grasp his opportunity was Mousa Dembele, as the Belgian appeared to be back to his best against Manchester United, but slipped back to looking past his prime in a poor display against Watford.

The Sun report that Dembele is set for a January move to Chinese side Beijing Sinobo Guoan, and his potentially imminent departure should open up an opportunity for Victor Wanyama to get back to his best.

Wanyama returned from injury to take a place on the Spurs bench against Watford, and his comeback is a major boost for Tottenham after a frustrating year plagued by injuries.

The Kenyan midfielder enjoyed a dream first season with Spurs as he starred upon being reunited with his former Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino, but his last 12 months have been difficult.

Wanyama has suffered a number of knocks and niggles, and has subsequently failed to recapture his best form, with another pre-season knee injury so far keeping him out of action this term.

Yet with Dembele’s exit seemingly on the cards, Wanywama has around four months to prove to Pochettino that he can still be a star in the Tottenham midfield, and show that Spurs wouldn’t need to splash out to replace the Belgian when the January transfer window opens.
