Tottenham Hotspur are expected to be heavily active during this summer’s transfer window.

Tottenham have come on leaps and bounds since Mauricio Pochettino was handed the reigns way back in May 2014, but this summer will be vital for them, if they are to make the jump up to that elusive next level.

One particular area where the Argentine will want to address is his central midfield department, with Mousa Dembele’s future in north London looking increasingly more uncertain with every day that passes, and serious questions being asked of Eric Dier’s pedigree at the very highest level.

According to Spanish media outlet AS, Spurs are keen on signing Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic, whilst Paris Saint-Germain’s Adrien Rabiot has been a target for the Lilywhites since last summer, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

Mateo Kovacic of Real Madrid controls the ball during the La Liga match between Malaga CF and Real Madrid CF at Estadio La Rosaleda on April 15, 2018 in Malaga, Spain.

Whilst Dembele is an undoubtedly great player, it is hard to argue that his exit, combined with the arrivals of the two aforementioned players wouldn’t be a huge upgrade for Tottenham.

Kovacic is a deep-lying midfielder by trade, and he plays with a certain type of tenacity and aggression that makes him ideally suited to the robust nature of the Premier League.

The Croatian is also technically gifted, and possesses a wide ranging of passing that would enable Spurs to improve upon the fluidity of their play through the middle of the pitch.

Rabiot, meanwhile, is equally as gifted as Kovacic.

The Frenchman is cool and composed when in possession of the football, but he is not afraid of mixing things up physically either.

The two midfielders lined up alongside one another this season would give Tottenham a fresher look to their midfield, and would give them a great base from which to make real progress.

Out with the old and in with the new could very well be the theme of Spurs’ transfer business this summer.
