Speaking to Off The Ball, John Aldridge has been discussing Liverpool’s struggles this season and how they can turn things around.
Unfortunately, Aldridge isn’t confident that Liverpool are going to be able to turn the tide and improve their fortunes, but he does have one reason to be happy.
Indeed, the Irishman says that he’s actually delighted that the World Cup is coming at this juncture as he believes that this is the perfect chance for Liverpool to regroup, get their players back from injury and attack the second-half of the season.
World Cup timing perfect
Aldridge spoke about the upcoming World Cup break.
“Am I confident? No, I’m a realist. But I’m just delighted that the World Cup has come at this moment in time for us to regroup and get the players back. We’ve had a lot of players out. I don’t want to make excuses, but you can only work with the tools you have available. Let’s get to Boxing Day and start again. If it’s possible I’d like us to go into the market in January. We did it for Diaz last year and he was a great signing and I’m sure we can do it again, even though it is difficult,” Aldridge said.
First real break
The World Cup break is needed for Liverpool now more than ever.
Due to this tournament, pre-season was cut short in the Premier Legaue and Liverpool haven’t had much time to recuperate after their quadruple-chasing 2021/22 campaign.
A season like that takes a lot out of you, and that is one of the reasons why Liverpool have struggled so much this term.
Luckily, the Reds now get the chance to rest and get back to their best, and that could be vital as they look to challenge for major domestic and European honours in 2023.
