Everton youngster Dan Rose has confirmed his move to Schalke on his official Instagram page, stating that he is ‘delighted’ to seal a switch to the Bundesliga giants.

While the Toffees managed to ward off interest from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund when tying promising forward Anthony Gordon down to a new deal recently, history was not to be repeated with a teenage goalkeeper.

Rose was highly regarded within the walls of Finch Farm.

But, for whatever reason, he has opted to turn his back on a club who have won the Premier League 2 title twice since 2017.

Then again, there are worse clubs than Schalke for a fresh-faced shot-stopper to hone his talents.

Manuel Neuer, arguably the finest and most influential goalkeeper of the last ten years, was set on the pathway to super-stardom at the Veltins Arena before moving on to Bayern Munich.

Alexander Nubel will make an identical switch at the end of this season, after going from reserve-team star to club captain in the space of nine months in Gelsenkirchen.

And if Rose rises through the ranks at Schalke, establishing himself as one of the Bundesliga’s brightest prospects in the years to come, maybe Bayern will be tempted to return to a familiar hunting ground.

For now, however, he will be hoping that the decision to walk away from Everton is the right one.

Jadon Sancho may have become the shining example for young Englishman everywhere since swapping Manchester City for Borussia Dortmund. But, while he has thrived in the Bundesliga, the likes of Ademola Lookman, Keannan Bennetts and Reece Oxford have found the going much tougher.
