Some Crystal Palace fans are urging Jack Butland to delete a tweet he posted about their side seven years ago – which hasn’t aged well.
Palace have applied for a ‘deal sheet’, allowing them extra time to sign the ex-England goalkeeper from Stoke City, according to Sky Sports.
But before a joins the Eagles, Butland may want to spring clean his Twitter account.
As it transpires, the 27-year-old once wrongfully predicted that Crystal Palace would be beaten in the Championship play-offs – by their rivals Brighton & Hove Albion.
Butland was then a Birmingham City player on the verge of joining Stoke, and had just helped his side to 12th in the second tier.
Crystal Palace were, of course, 2-0 winners at the Amex Stadium and went on to beat Watford in the final at Wembley, to confirm their ascent to the Premier League.
This is how those of a Palace persuasion have been reacting online…
Butland, who is out of favour at Stoke, is expected to compete with Vicente Guaita at Crystal Palace, after Wayne Hennessey’s injury.
He won four of his nine England caps under the current Palace manager Roy Hodgson.
