Following an impressive performance at the weekend, it seems as if Dele Alli’s focus has been renewed, which is undoubtedly a massive bonus for Tottenham Hotspur.
Towards the back end of last season there was a great deal of talk about the mentality of Dele Alli. Whether it was his somewhat wreckless nature on the pitch or general attitude off of it, there were concerns raised that the youngster didn’t yet have the correct ideology to be a top level player.
But as the months have gone on, all that has changed. Whether it’s his maturity in front of the camera when talking about Spurs’ shortcomings or the progressive nature of his performances week in and week out, it’s as if a switch has flicked for Alli. The former MK Dons man is reading the game like a veteran, picking out the right passes and only making deep runs forward when necessary.
White Hart Lane
The naysayers may suggest that Alli needs to cut down on his diving, but in the grand scheme of the future for Tottenham many people seem to quickly forget that he is only 20 years of age. In terms of growth, Alli still has many more years ahead of him to approve his overall game and White Hart Lane is the best place to do that.
The most difficult thing in football is to get into the mind of a youthful star and work out what it is they’re thinking and how they are dealing with the pressure, but when it comes to Alli things seem to have smoothed over from this time nine months ago.
With a good base of English players around him in addition to an ambitious manager in Pochettino, all the chips are in place for the midfielder to turn into something special this season.
