Tottenham Hotspur could be losing one of their key players this summer in Christian Eriksen after he expressed his desire to leave the club this summer.

As reported by Sky Sports, Eriksen, who has one year left on his current deal at the North London club, stated that he wanted to ‘try something new’ after losing the Champions League final as he seemingly opened up his options about a potential departure.

There are not many benefits from losing a player of Eriksen’s qualities, but when looking at the bigger picture there could be a number of advantages to him parting ways with Spurs.

One of them is that a player like Dele Alli, who had a relatively poor season for his standards during the recently concluded campaign, would benefit from Eriksen’s departure.

It is understandable that Spurs would be looking for a replacement or replacements for Eriksen if he were to leave, but there is already one staring them in the face in Alli.

The 23-year-old, who has at times played a wide midfield role this season, is at his best when he is deployed down the middle and with the departure of Eriksen that would free the England man to get back to his best.

Not only that, it would save the club a lot of money because they could use that money to strengthen other areas of the pitch rather than signing a big money player to fill that attacking midfielder role.

There’s no doubt that Mauricio Pochettino still needs legs in that area and more depth is required in his squad, especially in the middle of the park, with or without Eriksen, who is reportedly earning 75k-a-week at the club [Spotrac].

But Alli’s game can be taken to the next level if he becomes the main man in the middle of the park, and it could even perhaps bring more out of star man Harry Kane.
