Dele Alli has posted on Instagram that he had a ‘great’ first day as an Everton player at Goodison Park on Saturday following his move from Tottenham.
On deadline day, Alli ended his seven-year association with Spurs by signing a permanent contract with the Toffees.
During Everton’s 4-1 FA Cup win against Brentford yesterday, both Alli and Donny van de Beek were introduced to the home crowd at half-time and the Englishman had this to say about that moment.
Both Alli and Van de Beek will be eligible to play against Newcastle on Tuesday night and it will be interesting to see what Frank Lampard does with his team.
During Everton’s previous Premier League game, they had just ended the ill-fated reign of Rafa Benitez, lost 1-0 to Aston Villa and fans were protesting after the match.
There was a dark cloud hovering over the blue half of Merseyside and the trust between the supporters and those running the club had well and truly gone out of the window.
Whilst the Toffees faithful are still questioning the road owner Farhad Moshiri has taken them down over the years, the mood is slightly better with Lampard in the dugout.
The majority of supporters seemed to have agreed with his appointment and the arrival of Van de Beek and Alli also lifted the mood around the place.
Now it’s a case of getting down to business and trying to push themselves away from the relegation zone.
Those in Everton colours won’t, at this moment in time, be worried about getting dragged into a relegation dogfight.
But if they suffer a defeat at St James’ Park, then they might have to look over their shoulder.
