Michael Dawson has suggested on Sky Sports News (1:26pm, October 2, 2021) that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli is a victim of his own success.

The former Tottenham central defender believes that Alli set a high standard for himself in first two or three seasons at Tottenham.

The Sky Sports pundit, who is now a Club Ambassador for Tottenham, believes that Alli’s struggles now is because of the bar he set himself.

Michael Dawson’s verdict

Dawson said about Alli on Sky Sports News (1:26pm, October 2, 2021): “It happened so quick, so then he set the bar so high, as soon as he comes below it, people start questioning it. So it might be a downfall of his own success. It was so quick.”

What now for Dele Alli?

Alli was brilliant when he first joined Tottenham from MK Dons and flourished under then manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The 25-year-old was dynamic, played with an edge, found his way into the opposition penalty area, scored goals and created chances.

Alli was a joy to watch.

The Tottenham no.20 scored 10 goals and gave nine assists in the Premier League in 2015-16.

The England international scored 18 goals and gave seven assists in the Premier League in 2016-17.

Alli scored nine goals and gave 10 assists in the league in 2017-18.

The Englishman is not being played in the number 10 role by Spurs head coach Nuno at the moment.

Alli has not been at his best for over two seasons now, and it is high time that he gets back on track.
