Spurs and England star Dele Alli has been in sensational form for club and country this season, and he spoke to reporters about how he wants to keep pushing on this term, sharing the goal target he has set himself, as quoted by ESPN.
The 20-year-old has established himself as one of the two most important players for Tottenham and the Three Lions over this past year or so, alongside Harry Kane – quite an incredible achievement for someone so young.
With the level of consistent brilliance that Alli has produced, It is sometimes easy to forget that he was playing in League One with MK Dons only two years ago.
He has scored 17 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions for the Lilywhites this term – a quite remarkable tally for a midfielder.
And the Spurs man spoke to reporters about his rise to fame, insisting that he is not yet finished this season, despite his already impressive goal tally, as quoted by ESPN:
Tottenham’s Dele Alli celebrates
“I set myself a target of 15 at the start of the season. I’ve got 17 now, 14 in the league, so I’m definitely going to try to get to 20. I wanted to add goals into my game and the formation and way we play at Tottenham this season has allowed me to be higher up the pitch and get goals and assists. Hopefully I can keep helping the team and chip in with some more goals.”
Mauricio Pochettino’s men currently sit in second position in the Premier League table, albeit a distant 10 points adrift of league leaders Chelsea, and Alli will need to continue to bang in the goals, especially during Kane’s absence, if his side are to have any chance whatsoever of catching the Blues.
