Tottenham Hotspur star Dele Alli has taken to Twitter to send a message to fans after Saturday’s 4-2 FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea at Wembley Stadium.

Spurs went into the game having cut Chelsea’s lead at the top of the Premier League table from 11 points to just four points in the last four games, but they were behind early on as Willian whipped a free kick past Hugo Lloris.

Harry Kane’s deft header beat Thibaut Courtois for Tottenham’s equaliser, only for William to double his tally from the penalty spot after a rash foul from Son Heung-min on Victor Moses.

Spurs again hit back after the break as Christian Eriksen’s pinpoint cross found Dele Alli to convert from close range, but Eden Hazard’s goal and a long-range piledriver from Nemanja Matic sealed a 4-2 win for Chelsea.

Not only have Tottenham and manager Mauricio Pochettino again missed out on a piece of silverware, but some believe that their defeat to Chelsea will hamper their attempts to chase down the Blues in the Premier League title race.

Tottenham will be hoping to hit back quickly, given that they face London rivals Crystal Palace and Arsenal over the next seven days, with Pochettino no doubt keen to build on his side’s seven-game winning run in the Premier League.

After Saturday’s defeat to Chelsea, midfielder Alli took to Twitter to admit that it was a ‘tough’ day for Spurs, but thanked all the fans who travelled to Wembley Stadium – Tottenham’s imminently temporary home – to cheer the side on.

Alli added that Spurs will come back stronger, an ominous, confident message to teams set to face Tottenham as they seek to bounce back from their FA Cup exit in style.
