Tottenham Hotspur saw their hopes of FA Cup glory dashed as they were beaten at Wembley on Saturday.

Having taken the lead in a FA Cup semi-final that took place on a ground that they have called home this season, Spurs fans would be forgiven for expecting the social media accounts belonging to the members of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad to remain extremely quiet for the time-being after Manchester United turned Saturday’s clash on its head to book their place in next month’s final.
The 2-1 loss to Jose Mourinho’s men was an agonising result for Tottenham, not least because it will allow the club’s critics to continue to make the point that, for all the praise they receive, their current wait for a major trophy will continue into 2019.

But while Spurs fans may not have expected their players to comment on the game on social media, Dele Alli has stepped up and sent out a message regarding the defeat and it is clear just how disappointed the 22-year-old remains two days on.
Alli scored Tottenham’s goal to give them the dream start at Wembley before Alexis Sanchez and Ander Herrera got onto the scoresheet either side of the break to turn the game around.

The Englishman made no attempt to hide from the result, insisting that Spurs have to be a lot better when they arrive on the big stage in future. He also sent a message to the Tottenham fans, thanking them for sticking by the team.

While some may have expected the reaction to Alli’s tweet to be hostile – with many supporters perhaps venting their frustration as the phrase ‘so near yet so far’ gets another run out – the majority of the Tottenham fans that have responded to the tweet have been full of praise for Alli.
They clearly respect how bothered the attacking midfielder was by the defeat and are grateful that he has reached out to the fans to comment on the result rather than hide away and hope that any anger blows over.
