The Tottenham Hotspur star has enjoyed a fabulous season for club and country.
Tottenham’s Dele Alli celebrates
Spurs star Dele Alli sat down for an exclusive interview with Sky Sports News, and explained how it is imperative for him to think outside the box, in an attempt to outwit Premier League defenders.
The 21-year-old former MK Dons man has been in sensational form for Tottenham this season, with his performance levels defying his tender years. In 30 Premier League appearances for the Lilywhites this season, Alli has scored 16 goals, and chipped in with five assists.
His superb displays have been a major contributing factor behind his side’s rise to second in the table, with just seven points separating themselves and league leaders Chelsea. And Mauricio Pochettino’s side can cut the Blues’ lead to just four points with a win against Bournemouth this afternoon.
If Tottenham are to have any chance of overhauling Antonio Conte’s side this term, they will need Alli to maintain his incredible levels for the remainder of the campaign, that goes without question.
And the England international opened up on a particular ruse he uses, in an attempt to trick opposition defences, when speaking exclusively to Sky Sports:
Tottenham’s Dele Alli
“Especially in the Premier League, defenders are really switched on, so you almost have to fool them (with your movement) into thinking you’re doing something else. For example, Chris (Eriksen) likes one where he puts a bit of whip on it so I look to check back out and the defender still thinks I’m stood next to them. That sort of movement start happening naturally but you do have to think about it a bit.”
If Alli continues to improve, and remain at the club for the foreseeable future, he will surely go down as one of Tottenham’s best signings of all-time, after costing the club just £5 million after his move from Milton Keynes.
