Shay Given has suggested on Sky Sports News (10:14pm, January 31, 2022) that Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur will not be able to get £40 million from Everton for Dele Alli.

Alli left Tottenham for Premier League rivals Everton on the final day of the January transfer window.

Sky Sports have reported that it is a permanent deal, and that the transfer fee could go up to £40 million.

It is a structure deal with add-ons, and Alli will have to have fulfil certain criteria for Tottenham to get £40 million.

Former Newcastle United and Manchester City goalkeeper Given has joked that Alli may have to win the Ballon d’Or for Tottenham to get £40 million for him.

Given said on Sky Sports News (10:14pm, January 31, 2022): “The figure you mention, £40m, it’s a massive fee.

“He has struggled at Tottenham for the last couple of years. Maybe he has to win the Ballon d’Or to get £40m, maybe that’s the case. There must be lots of clauses in there.”

Leaving Tottenham for Everton sensible for Dele Alli

In our view, leaving Tottenham for Premier League rivals Everton in the January transfer window made sense for Alli.

The 25-year-old midfielder has gone off the boil at Tottenham, and it did not look like he would flourish at Spurs under Antonio Conte.

Frank Lampard is now the manager of Everton, and the former Chelsea star was a great midfielder in his playing career.

So, in our opinion, Lampard could get Alli back to his best in the coming months.
