Everton new boy, Dele Alli, has claimed that Mousa Dembele is ‘one of the best’ players he has ever seen, as the departed Tottenham man posted on his Instagram story.

On Tuesday, Dembele, who left Spurs in 2019, posted on Instagram that he ‘hasn’t stopped yet’ amid rumours of his retirement, but he will ‘stop his career’ when his contract finishes during the next year.

The 34-year-old has always been lauded by teammates and opposition players alike, even though he is someone that doesn’t get mentioned when talking about some of the best midfielders in Premier League history.

Whilst Dembele would have loved to have continued in north London, injuries just ruined his career and he could no longer keep up with the intensity of top-flight football.

That’s why the ball-carrying midfielder opted to move to China a number of years ago and that’s where he will end his career now.

Upon hearing that news, Alli posted the following message to his former teammate on his IG story:

“One of the best players I have ever seen and played with,” said the Everton player. “Happy retirement brother.”

The words ‘streets won’t forget’ comes to mind when talking about Dembele and what he produced during his days in the Premier League.

An underrated figure and a player who is proof that stats don’t matter when watching him in action.

It was a huge shame that injuries played a part, in the end of his Spurs career, ending in a fashion where he quietly walked away during the January transfer window.

If it wasn’t for his injuries, then he might have just been even better than he already was.
