Speaking on talkSPORT, Danny Murphy has slammed Tottenham Hotspur’s January plan of letting Dele Alli move out on loan this winter.

The midfielder has been linked away from Spurs for some time now, and recent reports have stated that the London outfit are willing to let him leave the club temporarily when the transfer window opens.

Everton have been linked with a move for Alli in recent times, but Danny Murphy believes a loan move for Alli would be pointless as it’s just delaying his inevitable permanent departure.

“See my gut feeling is that Mourinho doesn’t fancy him, it’s as simple a case as that, he’s got Lo Celso, he’s got Ndombele, he’s getting a tune out of him. That kick up the backside he gave him worked, fair play to Jose, he managed that well,” Murphy said.

“If he doesn’t fancy him, sending him out on loan is just delaying the inevitable isn’t it? Unless you’re thinking about the asset and getting him in the shop window.”

We can certainly see where Murphy is coming from.

Alli hasn’t been one of Mourinho’s trusted players pretty much ever since he arrived at the club, and with the manager not looking like he’s going anywhere anytime soon, the midfielder’s future at the club is in jeopardy.

However, sending him out on loan still has benefits.

Murphy says that a ‘kick up the backside’ worked for Ndombele, so surely this sort of wake-up call could work with Alli?

We’re not talking about a bad footballer here, this is a man who once scored 18 league goals in a season on his way to winning the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

Sending him out on loan could be the wake-up call that lights a spark within him, helping him get back into something close to his best form, and even if it doesn’t, it will put him in the shop window.
