Ronny Deila wants to prolong James Forrest’s stay at Celtic.
Celtic boss Ronny Deila has told The Scottish Sun that he wants to extend winger James Forrest’s contract with the club, claiming the player has ‘something special’.
Forrest, 24, joined Celtic at the age of just 13, and has made his way up through the ranks with the Bhoys, with the Scottish international now established as a first team player with Celtic.
The wide man has had a number of injury problems during his time at Celtic, but appears to be getting over those fitness concerns in what could be a big season for Forrest.
With pace and great dribbling ability, Forrest offers something different to manager Deila, who needs someone direct alongside the more crafty Kris Commons, Stuart Armstrong and Stefan Johansen.
Forrest impressed with those very qualities against Malmo in midweek, and his performances proved just why Deila rates him so highly – and wants to keep him at the club.
Deila spoke to The Scottish Sun about Forrest, and having noted that the winger has ‘something special’, he confirmed his intention to extend Forrest’s contract, which expires in less than a year.
“We want to extend his contract, of course. He is a player we want to have with us in future,” said Deila. “I was so happy and pleased with him against Malmo.”
“We saw his potential and I told him in November last year that the Champions League qualification next year was when he was hopefully going to be the difference for us because he has something special,” he added.
