George Edmundson has done okay since leaving Rangers.
The 24-year-old defender left Ibrox last summer to join Ipswich Town on a permanent basis.
He had spent the second half of the 2020-21 campaign on loan at Derby County following a COVID breach with the Scottish outfit, which then-Rangers manager Steven Gerrard refused to tolerate.
The towering centre-half has started 21 League One outings for the Tractor Boys this season, scoring two goals.
He has certainly put his ‘disgraced‘ Rangers career behind him, but Edmundson might have a reminder of his past in the very near future.
Reunion?
That’s because according to Sky Sports, the English club are among those keen on signing Jermain Defoe, his former teammate.
Defoe left Rangers last week following a three-year spell at Ibrox but, despite being 39 now, he has shown no willingness to call time on his playing career.
The legendary hitman revealed today that he was known affectionately as ‘uncle’ among a group of light Blues supporters, due to his seniority.
And it’s plausible that he enjoyed a good working relationship with Edmundson because let’s face it, Defoe is as professional as they come and comes across a player who many would get on well with.
However, a reunion is far from assured.
The former Rangers marksman has a number of League One outfits keen on securing his signature.
And with 162 Premier League goals under his belt, among many more for non-English clubs, he still represents a shrewd short-term acquisition, considering that he’s free.
