Tammy Abraham was strongly linked with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal before he moved to AS Roma from Chelsea, and now Rangers star Jermain Defoe has given his take on the striker.
Arsenal interest
Abraham moved to Roma from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
According to Sky Sports, Jose Mourinho’s side paid the defending European champions £34 million as transfer fee.
The Athletic reported in August that Abraham wanted to join Arsenal and had told his then Chelsea teammates so.
The Sun reported in July that Arsenal wanted to secure the services of the 24-year-old England international striker.
However, the Gunners never formally made a bid, as reported by The Athletic.

Jermain Defoe’s verdict
Former Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United striker Defoe is a big fan of Abraham, and believes that he is a top player.
Defoe would know when he sees a quality striker.
After all, the Rangers striker is a Premier League legend, having scored 162 goals in 496 matches.
Defoe said on ITV (7:05pm, October 9, 2021): “I am a big fan of Tammy Abraham, to be honest. Top player.”

Did Arsenal make a mistake?
Abraham has been superb for Roma in Italy and is banging in the goals for fun.
The 24-year-old has scored two goals and provided two assists in seven Serie A appearances this season.
The Roma no. 9 has also scored two goals in two substitute appearances in the Europa Conference League.
Abraham is much younger than Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, and for £34 million, he would have a good long-term signing for Arsenal.
