According to journalist Pete O’Rourke in GiveMeSport, Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins would definitely be open to a move to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

The journalist has reported that the chance to play for Arsenal and compete for major trophies would be very tempting for Watkins.

There has been recent speculation that Arsenal are interested in signing Watkins from Villa in the summer transfer window.

Former Liverpool and Villa striker Stan Collymore has written in CaughtOffSide that if the Villans get the chance to sell the striker for £40 million or £50 million, then they should cash in on him.

Interestingly, Watkins is a boyhood Arsenal supporter.

Watkins admitted to Pro Direct Soccer that he was a ‘big’ Arsenal fan when growing up.

The striker also shared his love for Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins open to Arsenal transfer

O’Rourke said: “Yeah, it’s definitely something that a player is going to be interested in, especially if Arsenal are in the Champions League next season, which seems pretty certain that they will be.

“The chance to play at a higher level, the chance to go to a side competing for trophies and titles, is what all players want to do right now. I’m sure Watkins would be excited at the project that’s going on at Arsenal.”

Could a transfer happen?

We do not think that Arsenal will be too keen on signing Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.

Yes, Watkins is a good striker, but we do not think that he will take Arsenal to another level.

Remember, the Gunners will compete in the UEFA Champions League next season and will aspire to challenge and win Premier League titles for years to come.

Arsenal are likely to look for someone better than Watkins.
