Speaking to Liverpool’s official club website, Reds assistant manager Pep Lijnders has given an update on Thiago Alcantara.
Thiago picked up a knock against Crystal Palace at the weekend, and it seems as though the injury is quite a severe one as it will rule him out of this Saturday’s game against Brentford.
Thiago will also miss the Carabao Cup match against Norwich, but it’s fair to say he was unlikely to appear in that one in any case.
What’s been said?
Lijnders gave an update on the Spaniard.
“Thiago, how the gaffer said after the game, it was a calf injury. I can’t say now how long it will take but definitely not tomorrow and not at the weekend,” assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders said.
“Let’s get the scan results back and we have a proper diagnosis. A shame as well because he was taking the game by the hand, he was a proper playmaker in my opinion. A shame that we miss him.
“In one week we lose two really influential midfielders, that’s the bad thing.”

Not the biggest blow
Thiago missing the Brentford game isn’t the biggest blow Liverpool could receive at the moment.
Naby Keita scored a wonderful goal against Palace at the weekend, so he may be coming into a bit of form, and with all due respect to the Bees, they’re not the best team Liverpool will face this season.
As long as Thiago is back for the game against Manchester City one week later, this shouldn’t hamper the Reds’ season too much.
Fingers crossed the 30-year-old is back fit and firing sooner rather than later, as he’s been an absolute joy to watch this season.
