Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Michail Antonio has been talking about Chris Wood and his impact at Newcastle after arriving in January.
The New Zealander was the Magpies’ second January signing after Kieran Trippier, and while the right-back has outscored the centre-forward so far, Antonio has been impressed by Wood’s wider work.
The striker has worked brilliantly as the focal point of the attack, and while he’s yet to score, he’s been vitally important when it comes to bringing other players into the game.
What’s been said?
Antonio was full of praise for Wood.
“I watched a bit of your game, and while Chris Wood hasn’t scored any goals yet, I’ve seen what he’s done, he’s playing as a big man, he’s getting these flick-ons, the work he’s doing off the ball is helping you out massively. I can definitely see you two playing up front together, him knocking things down for you to run through on goal, it’s definitely a great signing for you guys,” Antonio said.

Played his part
While a number nine’s primary goal is to score, Wood has more than played his part in Newcastle’s recent revival.
The former Burnley man is an absolute handful, and his ability to draw defenders and link-up play has been vital to Newcastle’s success.
Antonio says it’s a great signing, and while the £25m may have been a bit steep, Wood has certainly added something to this squad.
