Speaking on The Done Deal Show, Dean Jones has been discussing Tottenham Hotspur and some links to James Maddison that have emerged in recent days.
There have been some murmurings that Tottenham could make a move for Maddison late in the transfer window as Spurs look to top off what has been a remarkable summer of business.
Jones is led to believe that this deal would be a difficult one for the north London outfit, but he also claims that Maddison himself would definitely be open to a move.
What’s been said?
Jones spoke about Maddison and Spurs.
“In terms of a luxury signing, I think they would like that creative midfielder, a typically luxury player and James Maddison, I am going to describe him as a luxury asset, but I don’t mean that in a derogatory way,” Jones said.
“Having someone like that in the squad is an unbelievable luxury. He can create those moments that change matches and he will also work hard.
“The big problem Tottenham have is getting him out of Leicester, he’s Leicester’s best player and he’s improved every aspect of his game.
“Leicester have to protect themselves here. I do believe that Maddison has ambitions to move on. He’s ready to step up and I think he would definitely be open to a move to Tottenham, I’m just not sure if that opportunity will open up unless Tottenham offer an awful lot of money.”

No space
Maddison has the ability to be an incredible signing for Tottenham, but sadly for the midfielder, there really isn’t much room for him within this squad right now.
Indeed, with Yves Bissouma and Richarlison arriving, Conte looks set to use a 3-4-3 next season, and sadly, Maddison wouldn’t be a good fit for that syste,
Ironically, he’d be perfectly suited to the lesser-seen Conte 3-5-2, but based on Tottenham’s recruitment over the past 12 months, that system isn’t at the forefront of Conte’s mind right now.
Maddison to Spurs seems very unlikely at this moment in time.
